From in-house to freelance producer
My journey into photo + video production started in-house at a creative agency in Amsterdam. As an in-house producer, I quickly learned the ins and outs of the branch. After a while, I felt up to a new challenge. Working as a freelancer opened up a lot of new possibilities. As an independent producer, I’m able to have more flexibility — pulling onboard the crew and creatives that fit your project the best. Perhaps even more importantly, it keeps the lines of communication short and direct. A tactic that, I feel, benefits the overall results.
Roots in Event Production
Before photo + video production, I started as a live event producer. For the ‘Expanding Theater’ division of International Theater Amsterdam (ITA) I worked on non-theatre pieces like ‘What Design Can Do’ and ‘Staat van de Stad’. It was here that I found my love for production — the appreciation for things that are well organised as well as creating a nice ambience both on and off the stage. Shortly after, I got pulled on board for bigger events such as ‘Uitmarkt’, an annual music/theatre festival in the centre of Amsterdam.
Producer with a Technical Understanding of Colour and Visuals
Before working as a photo + video producer, I ventured into live tv-broadcasting at Dutchview (currently NEP). After acquiring technical knowledge of colour, light, and equipment, I often functioned as a middleman between the director and gaffer to translate the desired ‘look and feel’ onto the screen. In my work nowadays, I feel this understanding of the technical aspects of light, camera, and other equipment ensures a smooth interaction between myself and the creators on set. On top of that, it enables me to understand the possibilities we have for content creation in the earlier creative process.
always up to discuss future creative projects
Finding that sweetspot between visual innovation, client/customer needs, and practical possibilities is what I truly enjoy about the creation process. Be it a pure product shoot, sportstyle/fashion, sports, events, or theatre. Production is what I enjoy.
